Caught Reading!

Has your child been "caught reading?" In an effort to encourage reading engagement, these slips are being handed out to students who are "caught" enjoying their free reading time. Pictures of those students are featured on the tv near the lobby. Below you will find some of these photos.

Small Moment Stories

This week marks the end of our narrative writing unit. Students have been working hard to write small moment stories that include lots of detail. The pictures below show our young authors hard at work writing small moment stories that show off everything they have learned in this unit.

Hello First Grade Families!

The first month of school has flown by. Team Hersom has been very busy learning about plants, writing small moment stories, discussing math problem solving strategies, and reading some favorite authors.

Below you will find pictures from our recent trip to the L.O.C.A.L Garden. Students got a chance to harvest beets and prepare the garden bed for winter. Several worms were found in the process. Back in class the students were given a chance to try beets during snack time. Not surprisingly, the beets received a mixed reaction.

It's Been a Busy End of the Year!
Team Hersom has had lots of fun with our end of the year activities. We went to the LOCAL garden to plant sunflowers that we started from seeds in our classroom. Then it was a trip to Beaver Park in Lisbon to see a pond habitat similar to the ones we've been studying in science. It's been great teaching these students and working together as a classroom community.

100th day

At the end of our 100th day students were given 100 items to make the number 100 with. It was a lesson in compromise and teamwork to reach the finished product. They did a great job getting creative and working together to create their 100's.

Thinking Back to Warmer Weather!

With all this snow, I thought a look back at the beginning of the year might warm us up. Check out the sunshine and smiles!
